Cherise Luke-Bennett explains how Resolution’s Code of Practice shapes her approach to helping separating couples find fair, practical solutions while keeping families out of court.

Supporting Families Through Resolution’s Principles

Good Divorce Week 2025 marks The Year of the Code for Resolution, a campaign that highlights why the organisation’s Code of Practice remains so important in family law today. With court delays at record levels and over a thousand new cases starting every working day, Resolution is calling for a better, fairer approach that keeps families out of lengthy proceedings wherever possible.

For Cherise Luke-Bennett, a long-standing Resolution solicitor at Nantes Solicitors, this philosophy has shaped every aspect of her practice.

A Constructive Approach to Separation

“I have worked as a Resolution solicitor throughout my career, which means I adhere to the Code of Practice that promotes a constructive approach to family issues and considers the needs of the whole family. My aim with each client is to help them reach an amicable financial settlement with their spouse and avoid court proceedings,” explains Cherise.

She believes that early advice and open communication can often prevent conflict from escalating. “One way to achieve this is through our Separate Together pathway. This enables me to work with both parties to resolve financial or children’s issues, prepare joint divorce applications, and draft the legal documents needed to finalise their agreements.”

Putting the Code Into Practice

Cherise’s background as a family mediator gave her first-hand experience of how collaboration can replace confrontation. This principle lies at the heart of Resolution’s Code, which asks members to reduce conflict, listen with respect, and help clients focus on long-term wellbeing rather than short-term disputes.

“This alternative form of dispute resolution results in less conflict and stress, is cost-effective, and allows each client to retain control of the outcome for them and their children,” she adds.
